The international scone is very different from the hungarian version. So here, in Hungary the scone is called "pogácsa" and it's always round, with checkered cut on the top. 

In all hungarian home you can find a special tool to create this round-cutted shape, it's like a gingerbread-cutter, but it's simply round with a handle. The checkered top is made by a simple knife, cuttings in 2 direction across.

This tipe of scone is very common in Hungary, it's even in folk-tales.  The very basic version it's salty, but you can make it with different fresh herbs, with potato, with quark, with cabbage, with sausage, etc. Oh, genial.
